The following trick will allow you to create a custom flash drive in order to install Windows 7.
This method is very useful for mini laptops without a DVD drive, but also for all those who prefer to use this type of media. At the same time this helps you not having to handle your DVD copy of Windows 7 at the risk of damaging it, but also allows for a significantly faster installation.
What do you need?
For this you will need the iso of your DVD, any brand of USB stick or flash drive of about 4 GB and a small software called Windows7-USB-DVD-Tool.exe, that you can download from the Microsoft Store website.
Steps to install Windows 7 from USB.
Install the software downloaded from Microsoft’s website and follow these steps to install Windows 7 from USB. Note that even if the software will format your USB key, it is apparently preferable to empty it before you start, so that you will not get stuck at Step# 5.
#1 Start the software from the shortcut on your desktop and then click on the Browse button.
#2 In the window that opens, navigate your way to the folder where you have previously saved your image of Windows 7 (.iso), select the file and then click on the Open button.
#3 In this step all you have to do is to click on the Next button.
#4 At this step you can either burn a DVD or create your custom Windows 7 USB installation. In our case, you will have to click on the USB devicebutton.
#5 In the next screen, select USB from the drop-down menu that appears. Then click Next.
#6 From this step onward, you no longer have to intervene as the program will format your USB drive on its own, after which it will copy all of the necessary files for your Windows 7 USB installation.
#7 A screen showing that files are being copied will appear. You do not need to take any action here.
#8 You can now close the program as your USB is now ready to allow you to install Windows 7 from USB(flash drive – stick)
